The Benefits and Drawbacks of Trailblazer’s Special Pistol, LifeCard 22 WMR
Keeping your gun concealed is the most important aspect of concealed carry. For this reason, smaller, more concealable pistols have been increasingly popular on the pistol market in recent years. In 2014, Trailblazer Firearms entered the fray with the goal of creating the tiniest, most avant-garde pistol ever seen. We now have the LifeCard pistol, which was first made in the.22 LR calibre but is now also offered in the.22 Winchester Magnum Rimfire (WMR) calibre.
WMR Lifecard 22
Simply put, the LifeCard is a single-barrel, single-shot pistol that weighs 7 ounces, folds up to roughly the size of a credit card, and is just about half an inch thick. Metal makes up the majority of the gun. The frame and handle are built of billet aluminium, while the barrel, bolt, and trigger are made of pre-hardened 4140 steel. The aluminium is anodized, and the steel has an extremely appealing black, corrosion-resistant Isonite finish. Up until you flip the clasp to open it, the gun’s general design is very simple and understated. You can also keep three more rounds of ammunition in the grip.
You may unlock the handle and unfold the gun for usage by sliding a little latch. Although the procedure is pretty straightforward, it can be challenging for someone with average-sized hands to work rapidly. You move the barrel of the rifle upward and engage another sliding catch to load it. Direct loading of the round into the barrel is followed by simple barrel closure. You must properly cock the gun’s tiny hammer before pulling the trigger to discharge it.
The Best
It is immediately clear that the LifeCard is a specialised weapon or the outcome of a “someone could, so they did” circumstance. But there are undoubtedly certain benefits to the rifle. The.22 WMR has a little bit more power than the earlier.22 LR variant, which is another benefit. It’s usually advantageous when you can boost a weapon’s knockout effectiveness without growing it larger.
Additionally, it has that “tacti-cool” aspect that draws attention. The moment the gun is shown, everyone is intrigued by it. Not to mention the awesome lanyard hole for those of us who like to use the LifeCard as a keychain or 7-ounce piece of jewellery.
The Poor
Let’s start with the large animal in a tiny space. The LifeCard is a.22 WMR pistol with a single round. A.22 WMR bullet could undoubtedly neutralise a threat. With this pistol, you only have one chance to succeed. That single round’s firing process is just that—a process. The LifeCard must now be retrieved from your pocket, handbag, holster, bra, pack of cigarettes, or perhaps even that difficult-to-open mint bottle, assuming that you already have one round of.22 WMR loaded into the barrel. Then, in order to open the gun, your trembling hands must determine which side the barrel is on and make sure they are sliding the proper clasp. The trigger must then be set in the firing position by grabbing hold of the tiny little hammer and pulling it back.
Not only that, but you now have to try to aim this tiny, unwieldy weapon with a 2.5-inch barrel and no sights at your target. The lack of sights is really moot, though, considering this weapon was intended for close quarters fighting with a big human-sized target. Having said that, if the threat was close enough for me to draw my gun, I might already be in a situation where I was fighting in hand-to-hand combat, and you really need two hands to use the LifeCard effectively.
The Bad
Despite the fact that the gun’s folding form makes it appear to be nothing like a pistol and makes it highly desirable for concealed carry, the LifeCard’s total size is equivalent to that of guns like the Ruger LCP, the Kahr P380, or even the KelTec P-3AT when it is fully extended.
Despite having at least six times as much ammo in a much more potent and reliable centerfire cartridge and being ready to fire upon drawing, the three weapons aren’t really that much bigger. The Trailblazer LifeCard is actually more expensive than some of those alternative plans. You could purchase a more potent pistol in the same size range, along with a holster and ammunition, for the same $399.
Size Time
Let’s talk about the pistol’s real capabilities now that the good, the terrible, and the ugly have been addressed. When you’re not stressed out, at the range, it’s simple to fold and unfold the LifeCard. The locks, hammer, and trigger could all be operated without difficulty by anyone who handled the firearm. Even while their uses do require a small degree of training, the LifeCard is nevertheless generally quite easy to use.
In such a situation, loading the LifeCard is as simple. To release the barrel, simply open the gun and lift the lock. After you load a round, the barrel nearly slides back into place after it has broken open. Pulling the hammer back is all that is necessary to prepare the gun for firing, and anyone can do it with minimal effort. Everyone who attempted it on the range was successful in recoiling the hammer and pulling the trigger.
It’s extremely interesting just to fire the rifle. Not as horrible as you may anticipate is the recoil. Not at all uncomfortable or painful. The strange rectangular grip is by no means ergonomic, yet it functions just fine. The LifeCard is also a lot of fun to shoot, and it made for some great chuckles at the range. It launches a massive ring of fire in the direction of the target, which at a public range seemed to attract a lot of attention. And opening the barrel, removing the empty case, and inserting a new cartridge are all that are required to reload the weapon.
A Various Approach
What about precision? Well, using the LifeCard makes accuracy difficult. I felt a little like I was playing catch with my five-year-old. When I was shooting for the target’s center-mass, one shot would go high, the next shot would go low, and how in the world did that bullet reach the ground? The LifeCard’s justification is that it isn’t really intended to be accurate.
The LifeCard is a really unique and interesting weapon. Although I probably wouldn’t carry it as my main weapon, I believe it would be a suitable backup for my everyday carry weapon. Given its size when folded up, it is quite easy to hide in plain sight. I think it can be improved, albeit never as quickly as just pulling a gun out of a holster. It would take a lot of practise to use it effectively in a challenging defensive situation.
Each user will decide how valuable the LifeCard is for themselves. Some people will still view it as a gimmick. It might be a remedy for some people. Whatever the case, it has a very distinctive and cutting-edge design that, in the words of Trailblazer Firearms, “may just be the last pistol you’ll leave behind.”

This model also features a unique dimpling texture found throughout the slide and grip, which provides ample grip while being snag-free during holstering. The TRS Comp uses a 14K gold bead front sight that does an excellent job catching light, coupled with a Heinie Ledge Black rear sight for quick target acquisition.
The pistol also features Nighthawk Customs’ Interchangeable Optic System (IOS), which is a dedicated dovetail machined onto the slide and allows for optic mounting with adapters. This system allows for an interchangeable series of sight options to quickly switch rear sights in a matter of seconds.
Interchangeable Optic System
Nighthawk Custom’s Interchangeable Optic System allows a user to switch from a plate with a traditional rear sight to a red-dot optic in seconds. This feature is especially beneficial for concealed-carry practitioners who want to train with a red-dot but still carry a traditional rear sight.
Nighthawk’s unique IOS system involves milling the top rear section of their slide to interface with an interchangeable series of sight options, including a Trijicon RMR and other red-dot sights. This low-profile system also incorporates a suppressor-height rear sight as a backup to the optic’s front sight.
The TRS Comp features a match grade 5.00′′ barrel on a government sized frame with a monolithic slide, a full-length dust cover and an integrated single-port compensator. This combination reduces muzzle flip and delivers faster follow-up shots on the range, a must-have for competitive shooters.
The TRS Comp is finished in black nitride for a sleek, durable look. The lightweight aluminum trigger possesses a serrated flat face and a gold bead front sight does an excellent job catching light, providing quick target acquisition. A Heinie Ledge Black rear sight completes the package.
Match Grade Barrel
One of the most important features of any match pistol is a properly fitted barrel. A true match grade barrel will have zero play in the muzzle or at the hood, and it should glide into battery smoothly without any drag or snag on the slide.
This is achieved by carefully fitting the barrel to all of the chamber hood contact surfaces and the lower locking lug. Once this is done it will have a true target fit and shoot groups that rival a 1911 handgun.
