The folks over at Heizer Defense have introduced their answer to the call for small, compact firepower… the PS1 (or Pocket Shotgun 1).
Weighing in at a svelte 21 ounces, this little gem can go anywhere and everywhere with you and will fit neatly into virtually any pocket. While not everyone is looking for a one-eyed jack, if you are (or are just a gun lover like us) then read on.
First, and perhaps most importantly to many of you, this baby is 100% made in the U.S.A. (just outside of St. Louis). It’s built solid from the core out, and is available in either Stainless Steel or Titanium for ultimate ruggedness and durability. Here are some of the specs of the PS1:
- Chambered: 45 Colt/.410
- Weight: 21 oz
- Height: 3 7/8 inches
- Width: .7 inches
- Length: 4 5/8 inches
- Finish: Black or Silver
- MSRP: $399.00
- Stainless Steel Frame and Barrel (Titanium Frame optional)
From a performance perspective the roller bearing guided trigger is designed to provide a smoother, more reliable pull. In a Guns & Ammo PS1 review
they wrote: “The double-action-only trigger system is unique in that it uses ball bearings for achieving a smooth, consistent, crisp trigger pull. At 6.1 pounds, the trigger isn’t light, but it is easily managed during takeup.”
I also like the rounded, smooth edges and surfaces which make for a truly snag-free experience. The added ambidextrous operation is really hard to believe. After firing, when the breech is opened, an extractor helps with quicker reloads (much like a single shot shotgun).
The folks at Heizer have fired over 5,000 rounds of .410 through this firearm without a single failure (and still counting, I think LOL)… it seems really reliable. While it is a single shot, you can store two rounds of 45 Colt in the handle.

The video below was a pre-launch interview over 2 years ago with the CEO of Heizer but it shows the pistol in more detail. The pistol is readily available right now.
